Students to spend 8 weeks in Israel

This year, 19 Valley students are spending eight weeks at Alexander Muss High School in Israel, through a program sponsored by the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Phoenix.

The students will be immersed in 350 hours of experiential learning and will receive high school and/or college credit for the program.

The school focuses on the history of Israel and its role in the development of western civilization. Approximately 20 of the 56 class days include field experience at the historical sites discussed in class. Before leaving for Israel, each student attends a 15-week Israel preparation class through BJE's Hebrew High School.

Students are based on the Mosenson Center of International Education in the community of Hod HaSharon, located near Tel Aviv and Netanya.

The high school juniors and seniors are: Avi Beliack, Mollie Epstein, Joshua Flaster, Lynashley Gildar, Adam Gordon, Jacqueline Grabois, Jess Guttell, Brian Herman, Scott Jaffa, Andrew Lerner, Avi Lerner, Levy Lerner, Michael Lowe, Jared Lowy, Russell Mollen, Lisa Reinherz, Jed Shein, Matthew Stark and Rachel Winer.

Each student is a recipient of BJE's Sarah Levitz Study Fellowship in Israel, the London Gold Scholarship, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix's Harold and Jean Grossman scholarship.

Five eight-week sessions are held throughout the year. For information, call BJE at 602-234-1645 or 602-234-1660.
