Local musician, artist releases new CDBaruch Koritan, a local cantorial soloist and songwriter, has released his compact disc, "Shalom to You!" which includes 11 original songs, words and music, some of which are based on liturgical and biblical texts.The CD, on which Koritan worked for two years, also includes songs that represent the Diaspora. Songs are in English, Hebrew, Russian, Yiddish, Ladino and Italian. Koritan plays piano, keyboards and percussion for the songs, while Devon Bridgewater plays violin, viola, trumpet, trombone and flugel horn. Koritan has sung cantorally at Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley in Sun City for eight years. In 1999, he was commisioned by Temple Beth Israel in Scottsdale to write musical liturgy for a Shabbat service. He has also been invited to perform his new songs at the convention of the American Conference of Cantors and Guild of Temple Musicians in the U.S., Canada and Israel. As a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, he also works with his wife, Ruth Dubinbaum-Koritan teaching singing at Scottsdale Community College. The couple perform together as a piano duo throughout the Valley. In addition, Koritan teaches private voice lessons. The cover of the CD, painted by Koritan, will be featured in an exhibition Dec. 1 through Jan. 15 at Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley. Koritan has won a number of international awards for some of his other paintings. A CD and poster signing will be held 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, at Scott's Generation delicatessen, Seventh St. and Missouri Avenue, Phoenix. |
