Obituaries

Sylvan Heinemann

Sylvan Heinemann of Phoenix died July 28, 2000. He was 82.

He was born in Newport, Ark. He was a retired real estate broker and served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 at Camp Polk, La., a German prisoner-of-war camp. In 1963 he opened Heinemann Realty, and in 1973 he was a partner in bringing Century 21 to Arizona. He served as president of the Phoenix Association of Realtors and worked on the Realtors Professional Standards Committee until his retirement in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy: daughters, Susan Stamps of Louisville, Ky., Tina Robbins and Wendy Adair, both of Phoenix; son, Jeffery of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.

Mitchell Izenman

Mitchell Izenman of Scottsdale died July 31, 2000. He was 84.

He was born in Poland and was a Holocaust survivor. He was a retired owner of an apparel store in Chicago and was a member of Har Zion Congregation.

Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth; sons, Mickey of Northbrook, Ill., and Yehuda of Corona, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Mark J. Bisman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Paul Kerns

Paul Kerns of Sun City West died July 30, 2000. He was 89.

He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona 20 years ago. He was a restaurant owner and a member of Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley.

Survivors include his sons, David of Oakland, Calif., and Ira of New York City; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Temple Beth Shalom of the Northwest Valley. Arrangements were by Sunland Mortuary.



Melanie Schulman

Melanie Anne Schulman of Paradise Valley died July 31, 2000. She was 17.

She was born in Scottsdale. She was a student at Chaparral High School, where she played varsity volleyball and was a member of the Allstars. She was a member of Temple Chai and served as a teacher's assistant at its school.

Survivors include her parents, Harold and Enid; brother, Jeffrey; and grandparents, Ruth Stalerman of White Plains, N.Y., and Sidney Schulman of Buffalo, N.Y.

Services will be held today at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi William C. Berk and Cantor Sharona Feller officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are suggested to the Melanie A. Schulman Memorial Fund at Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix 85032.



Jeffry Sweet

Jeffry D. Sweet of Phoenix died July 30, 2000. He was 44.

He was born in Saddlebrook, N.J. He was an investment banker.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; mother, Claire of Phoenix; father, Robert of Phoenix; sister, Cheryl of Phoenix; and brother, Mitchell of Scottsdale.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.
