People on the moveRabbi Barry Cohen has joined the staff of Jewish News of Greater Phoenix as community editor. Cohen, former assistant Rabbi at Temple Beth Israel in Scottsdale, is a graduate of Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion, where he was ordained in 1998 and earned a master of arts in Hebrew letters in 1997. He earned a bachelor of arts in philosophy at the University of Michigan.Cohen is a member of Gov. Hull's homeless trust fund oversight committee and the board of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. Also, Elizabeth Dieterle has joined the Jewish News staff as an editorial assistant. She earned a bachelor of arts in English at Wellesley College in 1997 and studied for an executive master's of business administration at Imperial College, University of London. She has worked as a free-lance writer, is a professional musician and taught English as a second language. Governor Jane Dee Hull named Arthur Ranney acting director of the government information technology agency and state chief information officer. Ranney has served as oversight manager in GITA since July 1996 and led the state's Y2K effort. Hull has also appointed Rick Zelznak as deputy director of GITA. He will provide oversight on state budget operations, strategic planning, program evaluation and staff development. Hull announced the appointment of Catherine R. Eden as director of the Arizona Department of Health Services. Eden most recently served as vice president for public affairs with Rural/Metro Corporation. Ice Restaurant and Bar, specializing in American cuisine with a twist of French, Italian and Asian overtones, opened recently in downtown Scottsdale. Entrepreneur Steve Kopelman, with James Beard Foundation Award winner Janis Leonard, designed the restaurant. The restaurant is at 7341 E. Sixth Ave., Scottsdale. Call 480-423-2393. David R. Goldstaub has announced his candidacy for the Scottsdale School Board for the Nov. 7 general election. Goldstaub, a Honeywell attorney with 15 years of legal and business experience, says he wants to utilize to help the school district spend taxpayer dollars to benefit classrooms. He is a member of Citizens for Accountability, Responsibility and Educational Excellence. Phoenix Children's Hospital is welcoming Dave Eitland as major gifts manager for the hospital foundation. He will oversee gifts to the hospital totaling $25,000 or more. He has 15 years experience in major gift fund raising, estate and planned giving. Immanuel Campus of Care has announced the appointment of Walter J. Nieri as medical director. Nieri, who is certified in internal medicine and geriatrics, has been working at the campus since Feb. 15. He is also a certified long-term-care medical director and the program director for the Sun Health/St. Joseph's Geriatric Fellowship Program. Jason Harris, CEO and founder of Harris Technologies, Inc., has been nominated for Ernst & Young's Arizona Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Harris Technologies is a Gilbert-based computer and software resale company. |
