People on the moveThe Jewish Women International Delegate Assembly elected Pamela Hertzberg of Tempe to the National Board of Jewish Women International during the organization's recent biennial convention in Baltimore.Hertzberg just completed a term as 1998-2000 western region vice-chairwoman and also was a member of the national biennial planning committee and the membership committee. Joyce Paule of Phoenix also participated in the convention. Stan Levine, president of the Arizona Chapter of the American Jewish Committee, has accepted a board position for the Phoenix Memorial Hospital foundation. Jodi Bernstein has been named general counsel/risk management of PMH. Jewish National Fund recently announced its new board of directors for 2000-2001. Burt Kruglick and Steven Scheiner, both of Phoenix, will serve as regional designates on the board. Mitchell Droz retired on April 28 from Mitchell Electric Company, an electrical contracting, service and repair company he started in 1956. Beth El Center for Early Childhood Education has appointed Carol Bell to be their new preschool director. Bell brings many years of school administration and Judaica/Hebrew teaching to her new position. Jeff Berkowitz has joined Morton's of Chicago in Scottsdale as maitre d'/general manager. Dain Rauscher Inc. has hired Lee Eisinberg as an investment executive in its Scottsdale office. Eisinberg previously served as a financial consultant at Merrill Lynch in Scottsdale, where he had worked since 1998. Margot Dorfman, publisher of Arizona Women's News, was nominated for the Girl Scouts - Arizona Cactus-Pine Council World Awards. The awards honor women who exemplify the Girl Scout promise and law in their personal lives and meaningfully contribute to the betterment of their community. Dorfman has also been selected as camp director for the 2000 Camp CEO program, a weeklong, resident summer camp for teenage girls that promotes business ownership and leadership skills. After 17 years with Coopers Children's Shoes, Saralee Beletz will be transferring to the children's shoe department at Nordstrom in Scottsdale Fashion Square. Jonathan E. Miller, CPA of American Express Tax and Business Services Inc., passed Intuit's QuickBooks Certification coursework and became a certified QuickBooks adviser. Miller completed four rigorous, interactive self-study CD-ROM courses and passed online tests with a minimum of 90 percent proficiency. Fred Gaskin will become Maricopa Community College District chancellor on July 1. For the past six years, Gaskin has been president and superintendent of Cerritos College in Los Angeles. Keith G. Gossler has been promoted to executive vice president, commercial lending, at Northern Trust Bank of Arizona. He joined Northern Trust in October 1986 and has over 25 years of banking experience. Frederick C. Bauman, a corporate and securities lawyer, has joined the Brown & Bain law firm as a member. The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce announced its 10 finalists for its 13th annual Small Business Person of the Year Awards. They are: Ray Arvizu, Arvizu Advertising and Promotions; Debra Davenport, The Orion Institute; Gail and Denise Houser, Karlson Machine Works Inc.; Frank and Kathy Kreutzberg, Jet Products Company Inc.; Timothy A. Sawyer/Smith, an agency specializing in the recruitment of permanent talent for early-stage and fast-growing dot com and e-business firms, recently named Judy A. Vignjevic as vice president of Enterprise Operations. Barbara Meyerson, executive director of the Arizona Museum for Youth, has been appointed to a national jury of experts in the arts, humanities and youth development. This jury, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, assists in selecting exemplary programs for the Coming Up Taller Awards. These cash awards go to outstanding community arts and humanities programs that create learning opportunities for children and youth, especially those living in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Margery Rose-Clapp recently completed a CASE Media Fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Ky. She was one of five selected for the program, which is for print and broadcast journalists who cover health sciences and bioethics. Rose-Clapp, a Scottsdale freelance journalist, has been a reporter for nearly 30 years, working for newspapers overseas, on the East Coast and in Denver before moving to Phoenix in 1984 to work for The Arizona Republic, which she left in 1997. Wallace A. Steffan has returned to the West Valley Art Museum as executive director, a position he held at the museum from 1995-1997. Ben Lesnick of Copper-Wynd Country Club and Inn in Fountain Hills, won Chef's Choice in the Scottsdale Culinary Festival 2000 Mayor's Cup Appetizer Competition. His winning recipe was duck confit appetizer, which is layered Napoleon-style with orange blossom salad, Shitake mushrooms and an orange blossom vinaigrette ginger and Asian chili sauce. Allen Judd of Thunderbird Painting Inc. has been inducted into the Arizona Business Alliance as a new member. The ABA is a sales, leads, referrals and networking organization. Brad Majercin, general manager of Childress Buick/Kia, has been elected secretary of the board of directors of Phoenix West Rotary. He has been with Childress Buick/Kia since 1988. Jeffrey L. Rouss has been appointed senior development director for The Hebrew University's western hub. In his new position, Rouss is head of operations and leads the fund-raising team. Rouss previously served as executive vice president of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Los Angeles. The Entrepreneurial Mothers Association announced the winners of its annual Mother of the Year Awards in March. Winners were: Cheryl Hilgers, owner of CyberSurf Communications; Liana Rowe, owner of Life's a Stitch Inc.; Evelyth Hash, a representative for Melaluca products; and Susan Taylor, representative for Weekenders Fashions. Jill Bartlett joined the Braille and Talking Book Library at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records as outreach librarian on May 8.
