Purim feasts, festivities flourish

It's time again for Megillah readings, hamantashen and carnivals. Here is a list of some of the Purim festivities across the Valley:

SUNDAY, MARCH 19

Purim Carnival: Noon - 3 p.m.
Beth El Congregation, 1118 West Glendale Avenue, Phoenix
There will be a moonwalk, petting zoo, game booths, face painting, music and prizes.

Purim Carnival: 11 a.m.
Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Road, Scottsdale
The festivities begin with a costume contest at 11 a.m., followed by storytelling. There will be 16 game and skill booths, and carnival games begin at noon.

Purim Carnival: Noon-3p.m.
Temple Beth Sholom, 3400 N. Dobson Road, Chandler
Joint effort between Temple Beth Sholom, Temple Emanuel and the Tri-City Jewish Community Center. There will be inflatable entertainment from KIDZONE, carnival games, hamantashen and goldfish. Children wearing a Purim costume will receive a free bag of popcorn.

Purim Carnival: Noon
Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley
This carnival is presented by the temple's youth group and includes food, games, pony, rides, face-painting, a dunk tank and more. The proceeds from this event will benefit Camp Swift, a camp for disadvantaged children from the Phoenix metropolitan area.

MONDAY, MARCH 20

Purim dinner and program: 5:30p.m.
Beth El Congregation, 1118 West Glendale Avenue, Phoenix
Bring a dairy dinner at 5:30 p.m. The Ma'ariv service begins at 6 p.m., followed by the Megilla reading, program and singing at 6:15 p.m. There will be a special Purim activity for children in preschool through second grade which begins at 6:15 and culminates into a costume parade.

A Safari Purim Shpiel: 5:30p.m.
Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix
Bring your own dairy dinner at 5:30 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., there will be Purim activities for children and adults. The Megillah reading and "A Safari Purim," presented by the Temple Chai Junior Choir, at 7 p.m. Wear a costume. Call the synagogue at 602-971-1234.

Purim dinner and service: 6:00p.m.
Temple Emanuel, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe
Bring dairy dinner at 6 p.m. and listen to the reading of the Megillah at 7 p.m. An adult reading will be at 8 p.m. The theme is "Hats on Parade" and everyone is encouraged to wear hats of all types.

TUESDAY, MARCH 21

Moroccan Purim: 5:30p.m.
Ashley Manor, 1380 S. Price Road, Chandler
Chabad of the East Valley hosts a party themed "Moroccan Purim." Megillah reading and slide show at 5:30 p.m., a Moroccan buffet at 6 p.m. The cost is $18 for adults and $12 for children.

Festive Purim Meal: 5:00p.m

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22

Purim for singles: 7:00p.m.-9:00p.m.
Chabad Lubavitch Center, 2110 E. Lincoln Drive, Phoenix
Costumes desired but not required. Cost: $8.
