ADL leader won't seek new term

Anti-Defamation League Regional Board Chairman Marc Lieberman will not seek a full term when his current term ends this summer, he announced Tuesday, March 14.

Lieberman filled in for his brother, Rick, who resigned halfway through his two-year term on July 1 to concentrate more on his business.

Marc Lieberman has been forced to wear two hats throughout his year in office because of the resignation, also effective last July, of then ADL regional director Joel Breshin. That position remains vacant, but Marc Lieberman told Jewish News at the board's monthly meeting that a candidate has been interviewed and as many as five others may be considered. He said he hopes a regional director will be in place by the end of June, when his term ends.

Lieberman, a partner in the law firm of Lieberman Dodge Gerding Kothe & Anderson, said he wanted to get more involved in ADL activities at the national level and be able to spend more time on his legal practice.

Lieberman said nominees for the chairmanship are being sought. A nomination committee will evaluate the candidates and the election will be in June, he added.

Regional board and executive committee member Francesca "Franki" Snyder told Jewish News after Tuesday's board meeting that she would seek the chairmanship. Snyder, a member of Temple Kol Ami, also is the regional board's dinner chairwoman.

Lieberman said at least one other person, whom he declined to identify, has expressed interest in the position.

In other ADL news, noted sex therapist Ruth Westheimer will speak about her experiences as a Holocaust survivor at the regional board's meeting 7 p.m. April 5 at the Camelback Inn Resort in Scottsdale. The public is invited. A $10 donation is requested.
