Obituaries

Philip Antonos

Philip Antonos of Phoenix died Feb. 23, 2000. He was 77.

He was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona 16 years ago from Cleveland. He was a retired garment cutter. He was in the United States Army during World War II, served as a national service officer for the American Ex-Prisoners of War and was a life member of D.A.V. #1 and V.F.W. Post #9400.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice, of Phoenix; daughter, Rochelle Darbee of Santa Ana, Calif.; son, Howard Antonos of Westminster, Calif; and one grandchild.

Graveside services were held at National Memorial Cemetery with Rabbi William C. Berk officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary.



Jacob Saperstein

Jacob Saperstein of Colonia, N.J. died Feb. 23, 2000. He was 82. He was the father of Brant Saperstein of Phoenix.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a retired self-employed television and radio repairman and worked for the Woodbridge Board of Education. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps.

Other survivors include his wife, Eve, of Colonia, N.J.; son Michael Saperstein of Somerset, N.J.; daughter, Rochelle Ohring of Hoboken, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Goldstein Funeral Chapel in Edison, N.J. Interment was at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, N.J.



Beatrice Lando

Beatrice Lando of Phoenix died Feb. 25, 2000.

She moved to Arizona 60 years ago from Illinois. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughters, Shari Wortman of Phoenix and Judy Edelson of Bethesda, Md.; a sister, Esther Lieberman of Phoenix; a brother, David Lieberman of Phoenix; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Rick Sherwin officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Samuel Gaffen

Samuel H. Gaffen of Phoenix died Feb. 25, 2000. He was 93.

He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona eight years ago from Illinois. He was a retired electrician and motorman for Chicago Transit Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Minnamae, of Phoenix; a son, Richard P. Gaffen of Tempe; a sister, Dora Belson of Des Plaines, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Meyer Wilkof

Meyer Wilkof of Phoenix died Feb. 26, 2000. He was 86.

He was born in Poland and moved to Arizona 39 years ago from Ohio. He was a retired merchant and a member of Beth El Congregation.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Phoenix; sons, Neil Wilkof of Ra'anna, Israel, and David Wilkof of Beachwood, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Services and interment were in Ohio. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Rebecca Allen

Rebecca Allen of Peoria died Feb. 27, 2000. She was 98.

She was born in New York City and moved to Arizona 10 years ago from Detroit. She was a homemaker and a member of ORT, Hadassah, Knights of Pythias and the Sisterhood of Beth Shalom in Detroit.

Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Maneli of Oak Park, Mich.; son, Donald Allen of Peoria; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services and interment were in Detroit. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th St., Tempe 85282.



Morris Weinstein

Morris Weinstein of Phoenix died Feb. 27, 2000. He was 90.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 27 years ago from Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a retired sales representative for women's apparel and a financial consultant. He was a past-president of Har Zion Congregation in Scottsdale, a past-president of B'nai B'rith, a member of Beth El Congregation and a volunteer for SCORE.

Survivors include his sister, Sadie Holman of Buffalo, N.Y.; and nephews, Ronald Bookbinder of Phoenix, Dennis Bookbinder of Chatsworth, Calif., Paul Holman of N. Hollywood, Calif. and Robert Holman of Buffalo.

Graveside services were held at Beth El Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Milton A. Weiss

Milton A. Weiss of Scottsdale died Feb. 27, 2000. He was 71.

He was born in Detroit and was a winter visitor from Flint, Mich.

He was a retired owner and operator of a men's clothing store and was involved in B'nai B'rith, the Michigan Retailers Association, the Flint Golf Club and the Michigan Senior Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Toybe, of Flint and Scottsdale; daughters, Wendy Klein of Scottsdale and Susan Passin of Calabasas, Calif.; mother, Anne Weiss of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; sister, Rosalie Almborg of Ocean Ridge, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Arthur Kaufman

Arthur Kaufman of Tempe died Feb. 27, 2000. He was 86.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona 55 years ago from Pittsburgh. He was a retired owner and operator of a vending machine business and was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn Silverman of Rancho Palos Verde, Calif.; son, Joel Kaufman of Phoenix; brother, Saul Kaufman of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were at Beth Israel Cemetery with Rabbi Albert Plotkin officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.



Albert A. Alop

Albert A. Alop of Skokie, Ill. died Feb. 27, 2000. He was 81.

He was born in Philadelphia and had been a winter visitor to Arizona. He was a retired self-employed music case manufacturer.

Survivors include his companion, Dinah Lazar; daughter, Shelly Asher of Scottsdale; sons, Alan Alop and Marc Alop; brother, Sherwyn Alop; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Green Acres Mortuary.

Ann Gerston

Ann Gerston of Phoenix died Feb. 28, 2000. She was 93.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona six years ago from Florida. She was a retired bookkeeper in the entertainment industry.

Survivors include her son, Chick Gerston of Scottsdale; sisters, Gertrude Watman and Norma Adler of Tamarack, Fla.; brother, David Englander of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Florida. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Sydney Martin Snow

Sydney Martin Snow of Sun City died Feb. 28, 2000. He was 89.

He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1992 from Santa Fe, N.M. He was a supervisor for Sloan Supermarkets. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom and was a Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Snow of Sun City; sons, Henry Snow of Moreno Valley, Calif. and Curt Snow of Danville, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Sunland Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Sunland Mortuary.
