Arab affairs authority to speak at receptions

Moti Zaken, an authority on Arab affairs and a past Israeli advisor to former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will make two Valley appearances March 7 and 8, in behalf of State of Israel Bonds.

He will speak about Arabs and their relationship to Israel and the peace process, during a dessert reception at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in Phoenix. Israel Bonds' Prime Minister's Club and King David Society are hosting the event, which will be held in a private home.

Zaken is also scheduled to speak at the Bonds Annual Northwest Valley Reception at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Temple Beth Shalom 12202 N. 101st Ave., Sun City.

The event will honor Jesse and Irene Sellers of Sun City for their work on behalf of Israel.

The Sellerses are longtime Israel Bonds supporters. Jesse Sellers was honored with the organization's Heritage Award in 1981 and served for seven years as Israel Bonds' chairman for Beth Emeth Congregation of the West Valley. He also has volunteered more than 700 hours at Boswell Hospital.

A Holocaust survivor whose parents were victims of the Nazis, Irene Sellers says she supports Israel to honor their memory and because it's "an obligation of all Jews to aid and support Israel." She has worked for O.R.T. and Hadassah.

Prior to advising the Israeli government, Zaken was a teaching assistant and researcher at the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at Hebrew University.

State of Israel Bonds is an international organization offering securities issued by the government of Israel.

Reservations are required for both events. Call Tina Sheinbein at the Bonds office, 602-277-3323.
