Community celebration is on tapThe Jewish National Fund is sponsoring the inaugural celebration to mark Tu b'Shevat in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.The celebration will be noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater. Organizers expect as many as 3,000 people to attend. In conjunction with the celebration, the third annual Walk for Israel will take place along the Scottsdale greenbelt and finish at the celebration. This year's five-kilometer walk will include a two-kilometer walk for children. Walk fees are $18 for adults ($15 in advance), $13 for teens ($10 in advance), and $7 or a filled JNF Blue Box for children age 12 and under. Among the celebration events will be a tree-planting ceremony officiated by Scottsdale Mayor Sam Campana and a photographic exhibit - "Israel: The Land - The People" - that chronicles the life and development of Israel from 1967 to 1974. Entertainment includes live music and skits by area synagogues. Israeli food, music, folk dancing and wine tasting are also planned. Admission is $5 for adults, and children get in free.
