Temple Chai victim of break-inThieves apparently broke in to Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, in Phoenix last week and stole a large amount of sound equipment.Although the break-in was discovered and reported on Friday, Dec. 31, Phoenix police and temple personnel said there was no evidence that the break-in was related to New Year's Eve or was anti-Semitic in nature. Rather, said a Phoenix Police Department spokesman, audio/visual equipment is often stolen from houses of worship, as they tend to have expensive, high-quality items. According to the police report, Gail Stiverson, the temple's construction project superintendent, noticed that some audio equipment was sitting outside the synagogue on concrete about 11 a.m. on Dec. 31. He approached the audio/visual room of the synagogue and noticed that the door knob was off. He then entered the room, according to the report, and noticed that a 5-foot-high rack of audio equipment, normally there, was missing. After unsuccessfully attempting to locate synagogue leaders, Stiverson called police. Temple Chai leaders were out of the office this week, and other personnel declined to comment further. According to police, the synagogue has yet to provide a detailed list of the items that were stolen. |
