The 20-foot-tall, 250-pound Hanukkah menorah that made its first appearance on Tempe Butte nine years ago is being replaced by a lightweight version, says Stu Siefer, one of the people involved with putting up the display.
The Tempe architect said that he and his associates are looking to sell the old menorah to a synagogue or other Jewish organization for $1,500 to help defray the $3,000 cost of the new one.
"Our crew will help assemble (the old menorah) in its new location," Siefer wrote in an e-mail to Jewish News.
It was difficult and hazardous for the group to carry and set up the heavy, bulky menorah, and last year there were some "close calls," Siefer said, explaining why the new menorah was built.
