The City of Chandler Diversity Office and its community partners are seeking volunteers for Operation Back to School Chandler, a back-to-school donation drive that will take place 7-11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Chandler High School, 350 N. Arizona Ave.

Volunteers are wanted to load large boxes filled with backpacks into a truck and then unload them at another location, 8:30-10 a.m. Monday, July 10. Vehicles will be provided.

Volunteers are also needed to help prep and stuff the backpacks for the event. This takes place over three days, Thursday, July 13; Tuesday, July 18; and Thursday, July 20.

Duties for volunteers on the day before the event include unloading supplies, putting up directional banners, table placement and set up of key distribution areas. Some of this work will be done outdoors.

On the day of the event, 150-plus volunteers, ages 16 and older, are needed. Duties include serving as line monitors, guides, staffing several distribution areas, registration (English- and Spanish-speaking), water coordinators and clean-up.

To sign up as a volunteer for any day of the Operation Back to School Chandler activities, visit bit.ly/OBTSvolunteers. For additional questions, contact Niki Tapia at niki.tapia@chandleraz.gov.

There is also still a need for school supplies and donations. To view a complete list of school supplies needed, visit backtoschoolchandler.org. JN
