Longtime Temple Solel member Susan Waldbaum, a past temple president, commissioned Tucson fiber artist Marjery Langner to create six new Torah mantles to adorn the Solel’s Torah scrolls. The everyday, year-round Torah covers are variations of “Tree of Life” designs, with names of temple members woven into the linings. The High Holiday covers are variations of the Star of David. “The new mantles are to spotlight the beauty of the Torah and the lessons of tzedakah she learned in her family,” according to a press release. The mantles were donated in memory of Waldbaums’ parents, Milton and Miriam Waldbaum, and also honors her children – Rachel, Josh and Liz – and grandchildren, Raya, Henry, Avah, Grace and Rylan. “These are the generations that are charged with carrying on the legacy of my parents,” Waldbaum said in the release.
