Part-time Scottsdale resident and Holocaust survivor Sam Harris, 82, has spent the last 30 years of his life telling his heartbreaking and heroic story to thousands of people all over the world in a race against time.

His sole purpose is to ensure that future generations know the truth about Adolf Hitler’s plans to exterminate the Jews. Harris knows that he will lose his race and, like so many survivors, he feared that the stories and lessons of the Holocaust would die with him. To that end, Harris dedicated 10 years of his life to helping raise funds to build the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie, which opened in 2009 with Sam as its first president.
