Rick Naimark received the Lou & Evelyn Grubb Community Innovator Award from Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and the Phoenix Center for the Arts at the fifth annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, “Art in the Park” Oct. 13. The event recognizes outstanding leaders in seven areas; Visual Arts, Theatre, Music, Dance, Language Arts and Innovative Organization. Nominees are chosen based on the criteria of innovation, impact and integration.

Naimark  started his employment with the City of Phoenix in 1986 and worked his way up to deputy city manager. He currently serves on the boards of Friends of Phoenix Public Art, Artlink, and the Arizona Jewish Historical Society. He is also a co-founder of Or Adam Congregation for Humanistic Judaism. He is now at Arizona State University, working on campus planning and development projects. In his free time, he’s an artist who started taking painting classes at Phoenix Center for the Arts a few years ago. He sells his paintings and gives 100 percent of the proceeds to local nonprofits, including the Hance Park Conservancy.
