Mo Stein, principal at HKS, was named one of Phoenix Business Journal’s “25 Most Admired Leaders.” Stein was recognized for his lifetime commitment to fostering leadership in Phoenix at an awards dinner held at the Montelucia Resort & Spa on Sept. 27.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Stein has spent his career dedicated to the planning and development of the city. He is the current chairman of the Phoenix Community Alliance, the primary business advocacy group for the downtown core. He is also a founding director of Downtown Phoenix Inc. Stein was appointed to the Phoenix Planning Commission in 1997 and led the effort to update the City General Plan, adopted in 2002. In 2012, he was appointed by Mayor Stanton to update the City’s General Plan for 2015. An advocate for creating affordable housing, Stein led the project to create Steele Commons, a first-of-its-kind, 60-unit transitional housing project. He was also the director for Central Arizona Shelter Services and president of Arizona Housing, Inc., a not-for-profit developer of affordable housing.
