Mike G. is an alcoholic, and because his job often keeps him on the road, he’s attended AA meetings around the country. But when he’s in the Valley, he adds one more meeting, one where he feels he “can really let my hair down.”

“I can actually talk and it’s very likely somebody will understand me because of my being Jewish and the Jewish 12 steps,” said Mike, who’s been sober for about six years. “People are very, very attentive and they’re very heartwarming.”
