Hurricane devastates, brings together Houston’s Jewish community

Houston’s Jewish community was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey and the torrential rains it brought. More than 60 people have been reported dead.

Jen Schwarz, a member of Congregation Or Tzion in Scottsdale, grew up in Houston and recalls the major hurricanes that struck the area in the days she lived there. Still, she was caught off-guard by Harvey’s devastation. First and foremost on her mind was her sister, Julie Levine, and Julie’s family, all of whom still live in Houston.
