Lana Oyer

Lana Oyer

Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation will honor Lana Shagrin Oyer for her 25-year volunteer service as the music director at the Annual Music Service. This year’s service is open to the community and will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Sun Lakes All Faiths Chapel, 9240 E. Sun Lakes Blvd.

The choir will focus on some of Oyer’s favorite songs over the past 25 years.

Oyer arrived in Arizona on Sept. 8, 1991, the same date as the arrival of her first grandson, Jason Lane. She immediately joined the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation Choir, which at that time had seven members. Two months later, the then choir director moved away and Oyer took over the choir. There are currently more than 25 members in the choir and members from the local churches often join them for special services.

Oyer has been involved in music all her life and spent six years singing with The Phoenix Symphony Chorus. Two years ago, Oyer took charge of the annual interfaith choir festival, which was started 20 years before by Grace Goldstein Roth and led by Bob Confare for many years.
