The interfaith organization Duet: Partners in Health & Aging, provides a number of support groups across the Valley to caregivers that are specific to their needs.

Duet offers a general support group for any caregiver taking care of a loved one with any type of disabling condition. Support groups provide caregivers an opportunity to be in a supportive and understanding setting with others who are facing similar situations. Caregivers can ask questions and get answers from people who have “been there.” They also can learn problem-solving techniques and caregiving ideas.

The organization also offers support groups for caregivers dealing with loved ones who have Alzheimer’s disease, other forms of dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

Duet also has a caregiver-to-caregiver mentor program. Caregiver-mentor volunteers help isolated caregivers by providing them with emotional support. The caregiver mentors will work with the caregivers in their own homes. A mentor volunteer receives free training to enhance active listening and communication skills; provide one-on-one support and helpful tips to another caregiver; and connect the caregiver to resources with the help of Duet staff.

Please call 602-274-5022 before attending a group meeting for the first time. JN
