When Kenneth M. Freeman was 8 years old, he had two dreams: He wanted to be an artist, and he wanted to be a cowboy.

The fact that he was a Jewish kid living in Chicago didn't dissuade Freeman from his goals; he graduated from the American Academy of Art, then worked as a commercial illustrator before moving to Arizona at the age of 43.
