The timing of Bob Dylan’s latest appearance in Phoenix – coming as it did just days after he became a Nobel laureate and played the Desert Trip dream festival in Indio, California – seemed to make for a natural chance for him to bask in his status as a living legend.
He didn’t do it in any obvious way. There was no stage patter at Comerica Theatre on Sunday night (Oct. 16). Not one word was spoken directly to the audience outside the words of the songs. So he didn’t acknowledge the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature during the show, unless possibly opening the show with his Oscar-winning tune, “Things Have Changed,” was an inscrutable nod, but probably not - because he’s opened other shows this year with the same tune.
